‪I checked out most of the new broadcast tv network pilots from this week. My quick takes…‬

‪Prodigal Son on Fox: Oh look, it’s Hannibal lite.‬

‪I mean, that’s what it is. It’s Hannibal, but without the gore, daring, creativity, or superb acting. But in the absence of Hannibal, I’ll give it a shot.‬

‪C‬

All Rise on CBS: Won’t continue watching. Boy oh boy, they sure want you to know this is a show about people of different ethnicities. LOOK!!! STEREOTYPES!!! Oh, and a boring court show, too, I guess.‬

‪F‬

‪Bluff City Law on NBC: turned it off after about 6 minutes. Ridiculously maudlin. And the reaction to her mom dying had me laughing at how bad it was, which was NOT what they were going for.‬

‪F-‬

‪Emergence on ABC: A pinch of Lost. A dash of Stranger Things. The girl is Magneto. I mean…she’s Magneto. That’s it. I mostly enjoyed it, though. The lead is good. But looks like it could get real stupid real fast, or draw things out. We’ll see.‬

‪C+‬

‪Stumptown on ABC: Cobie Smulders is preeminently watchable, and it’s a strong cast surrounding her, so it’s got promise.‬

‪B-‬

‪The Unicorn on CBS: Terrible title that forced them to shoehorn it into the dialogue. But a surprisingly good show! As usual, the kids are great, but will inevitably be underutilized so that all the adults get their contractual screen time.‬ But thumbs up.

‪B‬

‪Perfect Harmony on NBC: Can’t go wrong with the two leads. But this is supposed to be taking place in Kentucky, eh? Whatevs. Pretty funny. Pretty sure the best line was improvised.‬

‪B‬

‪Carol’s Second Act on CBS: I don’t think I made it 30 seconds. Laugh track. Brutally terrible.‬

‪F- - - (there aren’t enough minuses)‬

‪Sunnyside on NBC: So a thing they mention about Kal Penn’s character is that he talks a lot. Kal Penn sure does talk a lot. Not sure if his character is in there anywhere. But he sure does talk. I like his sister, though. Wish the show were about her.‬

‪C‬

‪Evil on CBS: My favourite so far by a mile. Quirks. Shots straight out of Silence of the Lambs. Super likeable leads. And Michael Emerson being creepy. What’s not to like? Hope it stays this good!‬
