Check out SeymourAV for AT screen options. They offer drop down, fixed, fixed curved and DIY screen material options. I believe the minimum distance from speaker to screen is 2" so that it doesn't cause flutter of the material. I use their original materials and it works great. Their on their 3rd generation of material which has only gotten better.
There is a great, independent third party test of all the major screen manufacturer's materials -- including scientific, objective, measured assessments of just how acoustically transparent each material is. It's done on a semi regular basis by Jeff Meier of AccuCal. He does professional calibrations for many post production facilities, as well as many high end home theaters. And he publishes the results of his test for FREE on his Home Cinema Guru blog.
The most recent screen tests are at : http://www.homecinemaguru.com/new-accucal-projection-screen-material-test-report/
