There has been a lot in the news about cutting the cord lately especially in light of the recent supreme court decision regarding Aereo’s business model. We learned that its a copyright infringement if a company leases you equipment that captures OTA signals, transcodes them and then sends them to you via the Internet. But its not against the law if you do that yourself. There are a few products on the market that can do this. One of them is Simple.TV.

Yes, the proliferation of apps and hubs for home control is getting out of hand... really like the Home: On podcast over if you are really into home automation.... http://thedigitalmediazone.com/podcasts/home-on/
While I wish SimpleTV well, the truth is that while personal streaming of content is currently legal, Fox and others are going to try to use the Aereo ruling to shut Slingbox and probably SimpleTV down. Fox has sued Dish to stop its "Dish Anywhere" service, which is based on Sling technology. Until now, the case was not going well for Fox, which lost a couple of rulings. But now Fox has amended its court documents, citing the Aereo ruling as reason why Dish should stop its "Dish Anywhere" service ( http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/blog/boosters_bits/2014/06/fox-wants-aereo-supreme-court-ruling-applied-to.html?page=all ). Arguments based on the Aereo ruling were supposed to have been made in court on July 7.
If Fox succeeds, then it seems likely that Fox will go after Slingbox and SimpleTV next.
