Episode #1: AV After Dark - Inaugural Edition
Welcome to this inaugural edition of AV After Dark. This podcast is planned to be a once a month collaboration between the HT Guys and AV Rant. This month we discuss such burning topics as Windows 7 and how un-sucky it is (mostly). Why do Blu-ray players come with composite video cables? Braden has the answer. What is Managed Copy? I'm not sure any of us really knows. The Oppo-83SE - is it for you? Hint - No. Netflix via the PS3 - experiences. Is the Wii really worth it as an exercise device? The guys weigh in. Thanks for listening. You can find AV Rant at their website and the HT Guys right here. We really enjoy these collaborations and hope you do too.

Great podcast guys I hope you keep doing them.
hey guys-
still listening to the podcast--just on the Oppo discussion (I just got the BDP-83 and I love it, btw--LOVE it)--and just wanted to let you know I think it's great, super fun. I like the tone of it and think it's a welcome addition the regular show.
great work, guys! happy thanksgiving to you and your families!

loved the show the intro is sick! The two best podcasts come together!
So it is Thanksgiving and I just listened to this podcast.....are you kidding me.....guys...you are both great and I have listened and been a big fan for over 2 years....but really....RUN don't WALK away from this AV Rant guy...he is obnoxious and ignorant...what a cocktail for disaster......He is a massive TOOL ! One of the most un-informed people I have ever heard on a podcast......don't bring this dude into your work....he will bring it down to his level...which does not do justice to your good work. And if you are bringing him in to be edgy....maybe he should know what he is ranting about !
So...where to start...hmm....Windows 7...is a big mystery to him....video cards...mystery.....Media Center for Win 7...."There is nothing going on there" seriously...lets see...Netflix, Blue Ray software integration, Cable card integration....nope...nothing going on there at all ! Are you kidding me !
Managed copies...."Yeah I don't really understand how that works....but it will never work"....really ! get a clue dude.... Maybe you should understand something before you trash it....
His opinions about everything are ridiculous and it seems like he wants to stir up controversy....the only thing he stirs up is laughter...at how stupid he is.....really....DON'T let this tool bring down your podcast.....run don't walk ! He is noob....and your loyal listeners are not ! Most of us know soooo much more about Home Theater and computer integration than he does....consider it...!

You guys are my 2 best side by side podcasts and now you are together, this is great stuff! I'm the guy that would travel 250 miles to my race track and my crew and I would listen to both your podcasts every trip. Thanks to your tips I have done my own "Man Cave" Home Theater and my buddies just love it in there, one day I will spend the time to take pic's of it and the equipment I use. Thanks for working these two shows together and making my off time very informative...

Just listened to the combined show and really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.
I listen to both podcasts every week. The combo one was great..
I enjoyed this combined show. It's not a replacement for the usual show, but it's a nice compliment. I have a couple of comments on some of the shows topics....
First, Blu-Ray players and other devices don't come with HDMI or even component cables because that is where the retailer's make their money. The retailers sell most of these products with very little profit, if not at a loss, so they use the cable sale to make that up. Most retailers will even discount those those cables. Retailers like Wal-mart even publish a list of what reduced price an employee can discount those cables to, while still making a profit on the cable.. and the device. A friend of mine works in the electronics department at a Wal-mart but I would bet most retailers have a similar policy.
Second, I got a good chuckle out of the discussion on Managed Copy. Regardless of how it eventually works and what it looks like for the end user Ara, I believe, was talking about it as though the movie studios got together to try to offer us customers a nice way to watch the media in more convenient ways but got derailed somewhere along the way. Much to altruistic for me! The movie studios have proven, to me at least, that they are less worried about our convenience then they are about us buying their content.. over and over. They will do whatever they can to fight 'pirates' at the expense of the vast majority of their customers. The movie studios need to learn that they are competing against free. They will never stop the hardcore pirates that are stealing their content. They will always find a way. What the studios need to do is make consuming their media easy and affordable for the 'casual pirates'. If it's easy and inexpensive to watch a movie, people will do it. If it's cumbersome or over prices, people will download it some other way. These days you would be hard pressed to walk onto a college campus or into a High School and find people who don't know how to pirate content quickly and easily. To be honest though Ara (or was it Braden?), I prefer you view point! I hope they really did go into a meeting looking to make life better for us.
Anyway, great show. The AV Rant guy comes at this stuff from a very different perspective and while I don't listen to his standalone show the trio is balanced well!

Great podcast. Like several others, I avidly listen to both AV Rant and HT Guys and the dream-come-true combo works well. Keep it up!
You know, this could be a great idea for a podcast. I like two of the guys, Braden and Ara, but this third guy has to go. After you dump the other guy you could rename the podcast something like... The HDTV and Home Theater Podcast.
In other words, I totally agree with LRP. "RUN don't WALK away from this AV Rant guy". HA!
I support Ara and Braden as much as possible when it comes to these kinds of things. I donate to the HDTV Podcast, and regularly contribute, but AVRant and AV After Dark are not good. That other guy is annoying (no offense to him). I think it would be better if Ara and Braden hosted a call-in show together (at night?) instead of this AV After Dark thing.
