"Purple Snakes" Syndrome on some Panasonic Plasmas

Shawn in Virginia sent us an email with pictures about an issue that is affecting some Panasonic Plasmas:

Hey, I know you guys are fans of Panny Plasmas and I have been to, but my 50" set is suffering from the "Purple Snakes" syndrome.  Here is the thread:http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=765341&page=13

Luckily I purchased an extended warranty from 6ave.com and they are sending me new 50" set--hopefully this week.  When I asked the service rep what to do with the old set, she said "just trash it."  I clarified that she did mean throw it away.  So my question is, what should I do with a 50" plasma that has a decent picture except for flesh tones and on beige or white walls where the purple/pink/gray lines become very annoying.  I thought about mounting it elsewhere in the house, but we really don't have a space for it. I suppose I could see if my church wants it for the teen room or I could make a deposit into the local landfill.  Any ideas?

I've attached some examples from the forum thread (not my specific TV).

My 37" Panny has the same issue. I thought it was a calibration issue, guess not.
I thought of taking picture 6 months ago to ask the HT guys what they thought but never did.

Panasonic's rep is going downhill faster than a Toyota with a stuck gas pedal.

My 42" Panasonic Plasma has had this problem its entire life. I had every circuit board replaced under warranty and the problem persists. It must be an issue with the display itself. Since I bought the set at Circuit City well over three years ago, I am pretty sure I have no further recourse for replacement. At least I know I am not seeing things.

And here I thought this was my problem alone. I've also heard that the newer sets lose their great black levels after a year. Man, I won't make this mistake again. No more Panasonic for me.
