Elemental Designs A7-700 Subwoofer Listener Review by Carl Houghton

Carl liked his new Elemental Designs A7-700 subwoofer so much he wanted to write a quick review.

Overview:

Model Name : A7-700 Home Subwoofer
Amplifier Power : 1300w RMS
Subwoofer Driver Size : Dual eD 15" Subwoofer - Ov.2 Platform
Cabinet Type : Vented / Front Firing
Room Tuning : 20Hz FR - (17-100Hz +/-3dB @110dB In Room)
In Room Avg SPL : 127.71 dB (10-100Hz Max Output Avg)
Shipping Weight : 250lbs

I ordered the sub after searching around for a replacement for my 12" Klipsch single driver unit.  I wanted a compliment to my Aperion Audio top of the line 5 channel system.  I originally demoed and purchased the Aperion Audio speakers based on Ara's suggestion.  But back to the sub...

It is a perfect match to the rest of my surround system.  The sub itself is nearly 4 feet tall and front firing. Mine is one of the first front firing units they have produced.  The sound level is incredible with this sub.  It feels like the low frequency sound is completely enveloping the listener.  I tried several test movies including the new Star Trek Blu Ray.. it simply blows away the in theater version of the movie.  The sound is not loud but rather totally clear and in fact makes the listener feel as if they are in the movie.  The combined clarity of the Aperion speakers with this sub are just incredible.  At $1800 with free shipping, this is a bargain.  I know it may not sound cheap, but the quality is outstanding.  The fact that they ship a sub that weighs 250 pounds before being wrapped for shipping and over 400 pounds shipped, can be shipped for free is incredible.

The other cool aspects of this units are that it is made in Iowa, completely assembled in the U.S.  It did take them about 2 months to build the unit, but it was worth the wait.  I would highly recommend this sub for those who need a serious sub woofer and have a serious sized room.

I've used the A5-350 for about 2 years, and I love their subs. Wish I had justification to buy that monster A7-700.

This sub is a BEAST compared to the sub he was replacing :)

Being an owner of an A7S-700 sub myself, I can relate to the amazing performance, support and value these subs and eD have. Truly a bargin.

Thx for the write up on this.

Any WAF issues? :)

Actually she is very supportive. She helped me move it into the house. The biggest issue in gaining support has been upgrading the theater in pieces over the past four years. Last year we upgraded the screen to a 12' anamorphic display. This year I focused on replacing the sound system. Of course now that we have it sounding great and the picture looking great, it is time to re-design the layout. My wife actually is the one suggesting the rework of the layout.

Love the updated 700. It doesn't get mentioned a lot. I know the guys at Elemental Designs must be pretty happy to see some feedback they can reference :)
