Hey guys. Love the show and I listen to it constantly. I even have my sons listening while we are running errands in our truck. (Seven year old boys geeking out to a HT podcast? Cool) Anyway... I am in the process of building a media server from a Dell PC and want to copy some of my DVD collection to the hard drive. It was always my understanding that copying DVDs was a little shady. I believe in fair use and don't see a problem with it as long as there is no file "sharing" going on. (Note the quotes) What software do you guys reccomend for ripping DVDs on the PC platform? I am also wondering about using external HDDs for the storage. Right now I have a WD MyBook 1TB drive attached via USB for backups on three PCs on the house and have loads of riim available on it for the DVDs. In the near future I plan on adding two 2TB internal SATA drives to store the media, but is the external a viable option short term?
Thanks for a great show and keep up the great work.
I'd recomend dvdshrink just make sure to go into the options and turn off the 1gig file size limit, otherwise it will split up movies into like 4 files.
