Step by Step - DIY Wall Mounted iPad Controller
Since the day the original iPad arrived at Ara's door, he has been finding ways to incorporate it into his Home Theater/Home Automation/Whole House Audio environment. When a fellow home automation enthusiast (John Donaldson) contacted him and said he was willing to use his house as a test bed, Ara jumped at the idea. The following is a 13 minute video showing the steps to install the iPad into a wall to be used as a controller for music, video and home automation.

Awesome video!
Very informative.
I was a bit disappointed with this demonstration, and I'm sorry to say I found it a bit dull.
Like most DIY people, I think I know how to cut a hole in a wall, what I really would of liked to of seen was what was happening when he input the commands in much more detail. How he set the server up to receive the commands and how he connected it to the lights, garage door, music system and other things in his house in the first place.
And a bit more details of how and what the actual programmes he used to do this actually worked.
I hope with your next demonstration you can show us some more detail please.....
Hi David - for his home automation he's using our Mac home automation server software, Indigo. Check us out!
Great Video! Thanks for sharing it with us. Where did he get the refurbished IPad?
Randall,
You can get refurbished iPads direct from Apple. I just bought a 16GB with WiFi for $349!
