Tutorial: Programming a Super Skip for your Harmony Remote

When we reviewed the DirecTV remote control app for the iPad we mentioned that our favorite feature was the 2 1/2 minute skip. We though why not program our Harmony Remote with the same feature. A listener in Tasmania loved the idea but was having some issues programming it so we thought why not do a tutorial.

We hope you find the video informative.

Minor typo in the text above. "2 1/2 second skip" should be "2 1/2 minute skip"

Great tip Ara, thanks.

I've found the Logitech Harmony software to be a bit confusing at times. For instance, I have a Mac Mini that is running Elgato's EyeTV and we use this for watching TV (primarily recorded). When I "power off" the Watch TV activity it puts the Mac Mini to sleep. I don't really want it to do this, I just want the TV and receiver turned off. Do you (or anyone out there) know a way to take out the sleep command? I can't seem to find a way to get that granular with the activity power off commands. Thanks!

@Dave,

You can edit your device to remain on at all times. I do this with my cable box and media center.

@Ara

If you have a windows media center (and may work on other systems as well) you can type a number and then hit skip and it will skip that many times. So for instance if I want to skip 3 minutes I hit the number 6 and then skip and it will skip 30 seconds forward 6 times.

Thanks, can't wait to try on my Comcast DVR. Always a pain to try and time the skipping forward. BTW, the "Sequence" option in the drop down is not visible until you go to "Add Sequence" below and add one.

It appears the Comcast DVR FastForward is not quite as precise as it needs to be. I either go a bit too far or not quite far enough. Anyone else have luck with it?

Wow, that is an awesome skip feature. (no sarcasm!) Well done! Love it.
