LG 15 inch OLED to go on sale in Korea in November
Look for it in the US sometime in 2010
LG will take lead in size for commercially available OLED technology based TVs when it launches a 15 inch model. At this point if you want to buy an OLED TV you have one choice, Sony XEL-1 11-Inch OLED Digital TV. It goes for $2500.
LG has not provided much information about the TV but back in January they showed a 15 inch prototype at CES in Las Vegas. That TV was 720p and had a million to one contrast ratio. No word on pricing but look for it to be comparable to the XEL-1 on a dollar per inch basis.
We have always loved the look of an OLED TV but the price makes it untouchable for most. Scale the 11 inch up to 40 and you could end up spending $9,000 and that's only if costs scale linearly. More than likely the TV will cost upwards of $15,000. It will be a while before OLED TVs become mainstream. But we love the manufactures for trying. By the way, an LG executive is quoted as saying that LG will have a 40 inch model in the not too distant future.
